AvidXchange focuses on Women in Tech at Grace Hopper 2019

AvidXchange

AvidXchange has hired more than 200 women in the last year alone. With a focus on hiring top talent, AvidXchange made it a priority to be part of the world’s largest women in tech conference, Grace Hopper Celebration. More than 25,000 attendees gathered in Orlando for a week of networking, job searching and professional skills development.

As a sponsor of the event, AvidXchange met thousands of eager women as they stopped by the AvidXchange booth to learn more about what the company and culture is like.

“There are 25,000 attendees, mostly women who have gathered and are super excited and interested to be a part of the technology profession,” said Angela Sudbury, Senior Director of Software Development at AvidXchange. “It really is just an incredible view to see all of the energy.”

This year was Sudbury’s second year representing AvidXchange at the conference.

As a woman in tech, Sudbury says she couldn’t help but be moved by the eagerness of college students and recent graduates in attendance.

“As a mom and as a professional it just makes me proud to see all of these young women who are taking hold of their career,” said Sudbury. “You can see all the ambition and drive.”
Tech is still a male dominated industry. While women make up more than half of the workforce, just 20 percent hold roles in tech. Not only do the organizers of the Grace Hopper Celebration focus on recruiting but, also retaining and advancing women in tech.

“If you truly believe in gender parity and diversity, it should be reflected in your org structure,” said Sudbury. “It was really fun to share the structure of our tech organization here at AvidXchange. You could definitely see the excitement and that it resonated with these women.”

AvidXchange’s leadership ranks, which includes Sudbury, Chief Information Officer Angelic Gibson and Chief Information Security Officer Christina Quaine made attendees take notice of the company’s commitment to not only hiring women in tech but creating an overall inclusive culture that facilitates growth and inspires innovation.
